Three years of program writing and execution, with Daniel Dennis de Wit. Publication coming up.
From January 2008 until December 2010 I was co-director and co-curator of Artist-in-Residence programme HMK {Hotel MariaKapel}, Hoorn. I shared the function with Daniel Dennis de Wit and together we did everything from cleaning the rooms to writing the programme. We curated three year programmes consisting of a mix of artists’ proposals, projects of guestcurators and projects we curated ourselves. In 2010, we started offering research residencies to artists as well.
Dennis left HMK in summer 2010 to focus on his artistic practice again, and I did the same in December. Josine Siderius and Wouter Sibum are currently running HMK.
About HMK
HMK {Hotel Mariakapel} is an artist-run residency and project space in Hoorn, receiving artists and curators from all over the world. It has grown from the ideal to create a work- and presentation place where dialogue and collaboration inform experimental, context-based art projects. The programme involves artists working in a wide range of media, focussing on installation and context based work, video/film and performance art. Projects are developed both in public space and in the chapel’s exhibition space.
About the yearprogrammes
In 2009 we started to curate yearprogrammes in order to be able to investigate topics more in-depth and allow for different angles and more evident interrelations between the various projects. We titled 2009 The Future is Near, and 2010 The Catalysts Agenda. Each yearprogramme was presented as a whole on the beginning of the year on posters designed by Michiel Schuurman, who made similarly stunning posters for each project in 2010. Our yearprogams were supported by the Gemeente Hoorn, Provincie Noord-Holland and the Mondriaan Stichting.
