Printproofs HMK publication

Printproofs publication “HMK {Hotel Mariakapel} 2008 -2010 Reunion”

The publication HMK {Hotel MariaKapel} 2008 – 2010 reunion is a reflection on the programme of artists initiative HMK for the period 2008 – 2010, the years in which Daniël Dennis de Wit and I worked as curators and directors. The book is designed by Michiel Schuurman and printed bij robstolk in 10 different spotcolors. It contains contributions specially designed for it by a wide range of artists. The book contains a glossary with information on all projects which have taken place at HMK between 2008 and 2010, and biographies of the artists involved in them.

On 11 December at 4 pm, the first copy will be presented to cultural councillor Peter Westenberg of the Municipality of Hoorn. We would like to celebrate this special occasion with you with glühwein and pastries. More information on that will follow soon.

Pavlov e-labs: Lines of Beloning

It fits snugly with the RC21 “struggle to belong” conference: At the moment, computerwizard and multi-instrumentalist Jan Klug and myself are working on an interactive installation for Pavlov E-labs, an organization initating art/science crossovers. Both Jan and I have worked with Pavlov before, and are very excited to do so again.

We are collaborating closelywith genetic Biologist Jean-Christophe Billeter and historian Mineke Bosch. Our joint project will be presented during Noorderzon 2011

Dinner with Pavlov’s Nathalie Beekman, Mineke, Jean-Christophe, Jan and myself to go over the plans

self-writing poem #1, in Dutch

Posted in Selfwriting Poetry | Tagged | Leave a comment

What is selfwriting poetry?

It’s a poetry excersise I like to do a lot. It often leaves me feeling somewhere in-between making a crossword puzzle and consulting the Ouija board.

You start by selecting two snippets of text from different sources, for instance some unsolicited mail tossed and a magazine paragraph. You cut out the individual words, selecting without restriction those that appeal to you. Also cut out most of the verbs and lots of words like ‘the’ and and ‘but’, which will help you glue together the more pronounced words in a way that makes sense to you.

Start playing around, making combinations. You’ll find that sentences start forming pretty easily and some words just seem to belong together.

I do this in Dutch usually, but I made one in English last night to accompany this post. In this case I used a snippet from a flap text for a crime novel and one from an out-of-date travel guide.
